NY officers get body-worn cameras

Sheriff's department adopted VIEVU cameras to protect the deputies against false claims

The Ithaca Journal

SCHUYLER COUNTY, N.Y. — Schuyler County deputies are now wearing cameras on their uniforms, the Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday. The office recently bought a dozen VieVu PVR-LE2 wearable cameras at $785 each, using money collected from drunken driving fines and seized in drug cases.

One of the cameras has been given to the Watkins Glen Village Police; the other 11 are in use by deputies on road patrols, Undersheriff Breck Spaulding said Wednesday.

“One of the main things is to protect the deputies against false claims,” Spaulding said. “If somebody’s claiming that (the deputy) treated them poorly, we can review it.”
