Police Department Achieves Strong Return on Investment with LEID Products BACS Evidence Management System
Details on return on investment from BACS evidence management solution unveiled in white paper from LEID Products and the North Andover, Massachusetts Police Department
Auburn Hills, MI – LEID Products, LLC., the leader of electronic locker and cabinet storage with biometric asset protection and control, today announced it has distributed a new white paper with law enforcement trends and evidence management challenges to educate the law enforcement industry on best practices and solutions that ensure chain of custody and proper treatment of evidence. The paper unveils findings from a case study with one of the first customers to purchase the system.
The North Andover Police Department (NAPD), located 24 miles north of Boston, Massachusetts, is home to roughly 28,000. When the NAPD moved into a new headquarters, Chief of Police Paul J. Gallagher sought a better solution for storing evidence.
“The BACS Evidence Management System has been a critical component within the department headquarters for nearly 16 months and has already achieved a stellar return on our investment,” explains Dan Cronin, Detective with the North Andover Police Department. “Any Chief, Officer, Detective, etc. knows that law enforcement agencies are often under scrutiny as a result of allegations of improperly handled evidence. Evidence to be presented in court must be handled in a scrupulously careful manner with detailed chain of custody documentation, and the BACS Evidence Management System helps us do just that.”
The white paper includes details on some of the latest industry trends - rise in Chain of Custody challenges in criminal court cases, increased court cost to tax payers and an increase in Police Departments desiring accreditation. In addition to countering these challenges, NAPD’s use of the system has:
• Achieved time savings that equate to the salary of an additional sworn officer/year.
• Reduced court cost through reduction of man hours required for court appearances.
• Minimized agency's exposure to liability.
• Helped the NAPD achieve state accreditation requirements.
“The BACS system is fantastic! The North Andover Police Department is very happy with how easy the BACS Evidence System is to use. All of our officers agree that the system makes their jobs easier,” said Chief of Police, Paul J. Gallagher. “Dropping off evidence is a much faster process than ever before, and chain of custody has been significantly improved. I would highly recommend the BACS System to any department looking to improve property and evidence control and tracking.”
