N.C. Police to test narcotics analyzer

By John Vandiver, News-Record.com

Police will soon begin testing a device that could change the way North Carolina drug cases are handled and reduce the burden of the State Bureau of Investigation's overworked crime lab.

A Greensboro/High Point metro forensics team will test a device that its creators say can conclusively determine whether substances collected at crime scenes are illegal narcotics.

The evidence can be processed within minutes by police and could eliminate the need to send samples to the SBI crime lab for further testing. SBI testing is now needed because the results of field tests conducted by officers are not accepted as conclusive in court.
