Novel forensics used in Anthony investigation

Defense scientists say the method is too experimental to use in court

ORLANDO, Fla. — A novel forensics technique is being used in the trial of a Florida mother charged with killing her 2-year-old daughter.

Prosecutors have called on an Oak Ridge National Laboratory researcher to introduce his innovative method of detecting decomposition.

Until this week, Arpad Vass' technique had never been used before in a criminal case.

The method was used to test whether an air sample from Casey Anthony's car had chemicals associated with human decomposition.

The Florida mother has pleaded not guilty to killing her daughter, Caylee.

Defense scientists say the method is too experimental to use in court.
