By Roman Gokhman
Inside Bay Area

PLEASANTON, Calif. Police arrested a 16-year-old Tuesday night after he allegedly broke into the house of a female acquaintance to steal a letter. All he got for his efforts was several dog bites from a police dog and a trip to Juvenile Hall.

The suspect, who police did not identify because he is a minor, reportedly broke into a house on the 4600 block of Lakewood Street before 9:45 p.m.

That's when the resident came home and sawsomeone moving around his house, police said. The resident was not expecting anyone home at the time.

He called police and officers surrounded the house. A K-9 officer and his dog, Kai, were called in, and police made an announcement that if the suspect did not come out, the dog would be sent inside.

When the suspect did not come out, Kai was sent in to find him. That's when officers positioned behind the house saw him try to escape to through a rear window.

Seeing police, the teen turned around and headed back toward the dog, police said.

The suspect, who lives in Pleasanton, suffered several bites to the shoulders and ankle.

He told police that he entered the house to steal a letter that he thought was in the possession of the resident's daughter.

He was arrested and released to his parents.
