Citizen thwarts carjacking, officers make arrests
By McClatchy-Tribune Information Services VICTORVILLE, Calif. — Deputies arrested two attempted-carjacking suspects after a man pulled out a shotgun and foiled the attempt, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's officials. A man called 911 to report that two men were attempting to steal his friend's car in the 29000 block of Old State Highway 58 at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. The caller, who stayed on the phone with dispatchers as he watched events unfold, said the men were attempting to force his friend out of the car. He then retrieved a 12-gauge shotgun from his house. The would-be carjackers fled when they saw the gun, the report stated. Upon arriving at the scene deputies got descriptions of the suspects and were able to track both men down in the area of Old State Highway 58 and Irwin Road. Ronnie Lehman, 22, and Anthony Jones, 21, were arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking, according sheriff's officials. They are each being held in West Valley Detention Center with bail set at $250,000.
