Spotlight: Intrepid Networks Mobile Software: Next Gen Situational Awareness
STING™ is ideal for special teams such as SWAT, Vice, Narcotics, Intelligence, Surveillance and Crowd Control units
Intrepid Networks was originally created to address one of public safety’s biggest challenges: real time situational awareness and information sharing. The recent Boston Marathon bombings illustrate the way in which a distributed network of independent spectators was able to connect with decision makers. As such, Intrepid Networks aims to provide the latest mobile and internet technology to the public safety community to increase their tactical potential and manage real-time threats.
Where did your company name originate from?
Our name matches our mission of providing networks for those who are fearless or "intrepid". This is exactly what is expected of tactical first responders, Police, EMS, successful reconnaissance and investigation, direct actions or callouts, continuity operations, and disaster recovery. Intrepid Networks is here specifically for those on the tip of the spear, everywhere.
What was the inspiration behind starting your company?
We saw the sheer amount of technological innovations being developed for CAD & RMS, but nothing for real-time tactical-level decision-making and intelligence, and nothing for the brave souls on the front lines. The pure tactical advantage of empowering each individual member of a team with force distribution and rapidly shared critical intelligence became our obsession. We soon realized that commercial off-the-shelf technology, such as smartphones and tablets, was already available but needed a secure environment with a clean and simple interface for ease of integration.
Why do you believe your products are essential to the police community?
Domestic terror, narco-terror, and active shooters are sharing techniques, adapting strategies and innovating with technology to undermine society. First-person-shooter video games (tactical simulators) and the world wide web (a knowledge warehouse) are fast tracking lessons learned from today’s battlefields to our city streets (for example, the Boston Marathon). Smaller forces naturally have the advantage of speed and surprise to catch larger forces off-balance and escape through a window of opportunity caused by command’s natural decision-making processes. We believe that STING provides the solution to this fundamental challenge by changing the nature of information flow, creating a distributed network of independent yet connected decision makers.
What has been the biggest challenge your company has faced?
Our biggest challenge has been the slower-than-anticipated adoption of smartphones by law enforcement, combined with constrained public safety budgets nationwide. However, we have adapted solutions to assist budget strapped agencies and know that with every challenge lies an opportunity. We know how to help agencies with cost neutral phone strategies.
What do your customers like best about you and your products?
We strive to establish lasting relationships with key innovators within the LE community. We bake shared ideas and experiences into a smooth, simple and elegant interface designed first and foremost for those who carry a gun to work.
What is the most rewarding part of serving the first responder community?
The most rewarding part of serving first responders is knowing that we are doing our part to contribute to their safety and success, while providing low cost yet impactful technology solutions. It is great to be able to provide a simple tool that aids in providing an immediate technological update within agencies.
What’s next for your company? Any upcoming projects or initiatives?
We are tirelessly developing new and innovative features to support tactical integration and officer safety features. Probably our most exciting developments are with private ad-hoc tactical mesh networks and novel sensor integration for automating officer safety oriented responses.
