Big police technology shrinks to fit next-generation squads

By PoliceOne Staff

A security firm that developed a suitcase-size crime-fighting device has been tasked with shrinking their product down to fit easily into a squad — which resulted in the VHS-sized mini-MIDAS.

Daetech Systems originally created MIDAS — Mobile Image and Data Acquisition System — which is used by police and counter-terrorist investigators to gather evidence at a crime scene by plugging into any number of things, from a smartphone to a vintage video recorder to retrieve evidence.

The new, smaller version can connect to a car’s on-board computer, or to a laptop so that it can be taken into the field, according to Manchester Evening News.

Recovered files such as audio, video, and photos, are instantly forensically verified to ensure the integrity of the evidence and the officer can add extra data like the location of the incident and device type.
