Apollo Video Technology awarded King County Metro Transit contract for on-board surveillance system

WOODINVILLE, Wash., February 21, 2008 – Apollo Video Technology (www.avt-usa.com) of Woodinville, Wash. has been awarded a five-year contract to provide on-board video and audio surveillance systems on King County Metro Transit buses in Washington State.

Beginning in this month, 145 existing Metro buses on routes throughout King County will be equipped with Apollo Video’s RoadRunner video and audio surveillance systems.  Installation of the initial purchase, which totals $685,000, is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year. Additional systems for installation on new Metro buses may be purchased under the contract.

The eight-camera Roadrunner system is compatible with wireless downloading technology already in-place throughout the Metro fleet.  Metro has been testing the Apollo Video system on its buses since June 2007.

“We are proud to have been selected for this project,” said Rodell Notbohm, General Manager of Apollo Video Technology.  “The RoadRunner system was chosen after extensive testing throughout King County’s procurement process which included evaluations of wireless connectivity to existing network infrastructure, durability, ease of use and image quality.”

Metro Transit had record ridership in 2007 of more than 110 million boardings within a 2,134 square-mile area in King County.  According to 2006 Federal statistics, Metro has the 9th highest bus/trolleybus ridership of public transportation agencies in the U.S. Through the third quarter of 2007, Metro’s ridership increased by 6.5 percent, ranking the agency as the growth leader in motorbus/trolleybus ridership among top 26 U.S. transit agencies as reported by the American Public Transportation Association.  Metro has twice been honored as the best-run large public transportation system in North America.

In 2007, Apollo Video Technology was selected to provide digital video and audio surveillance systems by a number of prominent public agencies throughout North America including Chicago Metra, Kansas City Area Transit Authority, Tulsa Transit, Williamsburg Area Transport and Tacoma Public Schools.

Over 150 public agencies, including Los Angeles County Metro Transportation Authority, City of Lincoln Nebraska, the Cocoa Beach, Florida Police Department along with Metro Transit and Tacoma Public Schools in Washington State and the Edmonton Transit System in Canada have selected Apollo Video to provide and install video and audio surveillance systems.
