TASER International Initiates Dialogue on Non Lethal, Use-of-Force Policy

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq: TASR), a market leader and manufacturer of advanced non-lethal technology announced today that it had assembled a working group of more than 240 representatives of law enforcement, academia, the medical community, community groups and several branches of the U.S. military to initiate a comprehensive, international dialogue on use-of-force policy as it relates to non-lethal weapons.

"While TASER International manufactures products for law enforcement, the company believes that questions regarding use of force and the deployment of non-lethal weapons are best decided by law enforcement and the communities in which they are used," said Dave DuBay, Chief Strategy Officer for TASER International. "Accordingly, we have assembled law enforcement officers, administrators, policy makers and chiefs or sheriffs from more than 132 agencies in 41 states and 13 countries to discuss this topic."

A formal review and analysis of this discussion will be issued by the John Jay School of Criminal Justice, at the City University of New York in the coming weeks. The final product will be the opinions and viewpoints of the participants of the forum and not TASER International.

"Protecting civil liberties and strong, effective law enforcement are not incompatible," said Scott Greenwood, former long, term, general counsel, ACLU of Ohio and ACLU national board member. "When used properly, by well-trained officers, non-lethal weapons such as TASER devices can be an important tool in reducing injuries to both citizens and officers while preventing unnecessary deaths."

"The key in considering a use-of-force policy is to build in adequate and reoccurring training on all uses-of-force. It is critical as communities look at these important issues that they maintain a focus on reducing injuries and saving lives," continued Greenwood.
