Mobile Computing Made Simple with ITI's Enterprise Products
In the past, mobile computing has required special “mobile” software, along with expensive Message Switch hardware and software. A typical installation looked something like this:
The “mobile” software utilized request / response communications to retrieve data from the network, and to post information back. Typically, these applications offered a subset of what was available to users located directly on the Local Area Network (LAN). Utilizing the Microsoft .NET Framework and ITI’s proprietary Enterprise Framework, ITI has made their entire Public Safety Software Series “mobile aware”. With this architecture, all of ITI’s Enterprise software can be run on low-bandwidth wireless IP networks with the addition of a mobile license. “Our Enterprise edition products greatly simplify the concept of mobile computing,” says Dave Lommel, president of ITI.

“By replacing the proprietary mobile software and Message Switch with the very same ITI Enterprise software available to network users, plus adding a mobile license, all of the capabilities of an agency’s information system can be made available to the mobile officer,” says Lommel. Along with the mobile license, ITI provides an additional software module, Mobile Patrol, which provides a one-touch user interface for the mobile officer, along with Silent Dispatch and other mobile capabilities. In addition to supporting low-bandwidth TCP/IP communication for wireless networks, the mobile license also supports disconnected use. “Simply stated, this means that with a mobile license you can work in the ITI Public Safety Software Series when you are not connected to the network,” explains Lommel.

Disconnected use enables mobile users to work where wireless networks are not available, as well as enter information for multi-officer reports when the reporting officer has not completed his/her report. “All data is automatically synchronized when the network connection is re-established. All of this is made possible merely by the addition of the mobile license,” Lommel explained. “ITI is committed to mobile computing. We believe that our Enterprise Framework and modules, together with a mobile license, provide unparalleled capabilities for the officer on the street. Mobile licenses can be added at any time, and no additional training is required, as your software doesn’t change,” Lommel stated.
