OpTac International/Operational Tactics Email Bulletin
We would like to congratulate all teams and individuals that participated in the World Sniper Championship, hosted by the Carroll Co., Indiana Sheriff's Office and the United States Military at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. This educational event combined the elements of observation/intelligence gathering, sniper marksmanship skill, range estimation, physical fitness, communication, 90+ degree weather, and teamwork.
The 1st Place Overall Team Champion was Bennie Cooley, Jr., Department of Energy, Idaho, Falls, Idaho and Todd Salmon, Lee County, Florida Sheriff's Office. They received the World Sniper Championship Team Trophy and $10,000 Grand Prize. The 2nd Place Overall Team was Lim Wang Sing and Woon Kim Meng, Singapore Armed Forces Commandos Team B.
The 1st Place Individual Champion was Chris Peppard, United States Army 5th Special Forces Group - Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. He was awarded the World Sniper Championship Individual Trophy and a new Accuracy International AW rifle. The 2nd Place Individual Champion was Todd Svenkesen, Detroit, Michigan Police Dept. He received the World Sniper Championship Individual Plaque and his SWAT Team was awarded a SPA-Simrad Generation III+ night vision scope. To continue this success, we have developed a new Advanced Tactical Command Program to be conducted in Hagerstown, Maryland, November 2-4, 2005. This advanced program is designed to develop and enhance operational planning and execution for Commanders of Special Weapons and Tactics teams through interactive training and practical exercises. Classes on legal updates, media relations, the selection of SWAT team candidates, and command post operations will test and prepare commanders in managerial situations. An emphasis will be placed on critical incident response and supervision of interpersonal issues as they relate to executive decisions and departmental liability. The establishment and prolongation of multi-jurisdictional teams and joint operations will be covered.
The Tactical Command Conference and concurrent Vendor Exhibition will be held August 31-September 2, 2005, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. It will provide commanders, team leaders, and special operations personnel with a contemporary perspective on issues relating to tactical command and critical incident management. Topics presented by internationally recognized instructors will include preparation, planning, and tactics to enhance officer safety and operational success. Liability concerns relating to legal and ethical command decisions will be analyzed. An early registration discount is offerred on registrations postmarked by June 30, 2005. The National SWAT/Sniper Symposium and concurrent Vendor Exhibition will be held January 27-29, 2006, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The National SWAT/Sniper Symposium is designed to provide informative sessions on innovative sniper and command operational planning, tactics, and deployment. In addition, the management of sniper personnel, training, and critical incident debriefings will be covered. Details are posted in the Symposium Section at www.operationaltactics.org.
Information on these premier events along with the current OpTac International/Operational Tactics 2005-2006 Training Schedule.
