"Deputy Fife" Makes IACP Appearance

DECATUR, IL - A bit of Mayberry will make its way to Boston as Barney Fife -- the beloved, bumbling deputy of the fictional town -- makes the rounds at the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference Oct. 14-18, courtesy of Decatur Electronics, a Platinum sponsor of the event.

Barney Fife lookalike Scott Epperson will be on hand to greet visitors to the Decatur Electronics booth with his down-home brand of bungling bravado. Armed with one of those famous Fife expressions, "Barney" will pose for photos with his more competent, real-life counterparts.

"Decatur Electronics has a partnership with law enforcement that stretches back more than 50 years," says Kris Pearson, Marketing Manager for Decatur Electronics. "We are proud to support the IACP conference and hope our version of one-bullet Barney adds a bit of fun to the mix."

Deputy Fife won't be the only attraction at booth No. 2978; the Decatur Electronics exhibit also spotlights the company's popular speed trailers and the highly anticipated release of its new high-resolution digital in-car video: Gemini Plus Digital.

Representing the latest in technology, the user-friendly Gemini Plus Digital offers unprecedented levels of video quality, pre-event record, ease of review, no downtime and fast data transfer. Decatur first revolutionized the use of law enforcement in-car video with the release of its overhead in-car unit in 2000 and again with its SONY Hi-8 digital tape units in 2005.

Decatur, which has served the public safety sector for more than 50 years, manufactures speed measurement equipment for sports, industrial applications and OEM products for companies including Harley-Davidson™, Polaris™ and Jugs.™ The company also manufactures Gemini™ in-car digital video systems and OnSite™ radar and message trailers. In addition to its Illinois facilities, the company operates an engineering technology facility in Ft. Collins, CO, and a high-tech vehicle outfitting division, ThunderWorks Mobile Engineering, in Santee, CA.
