Decatur Electronics, Inc. Named 2006 Platinum Sponsor for IACP National Chief's Challenge
DECATUR, IL - Decatur Electronics has been named a Platinum sponsor for the IACP National Chiefs' Challenge Awards, to take place at the upcoming International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in Boston Oct. 14-18.
Decatur, the nation's first company to manufacture radar for law enforcement, has donated 75 handheld radar units for the Chief's Challenge. The IACP will award a Decatur Genesis Handheld Directional radar to the top three winners in all 25 competitive classes of the national Chiefs' Challenge.
The IACP Chiefs' Challenge focuses on law enforcement programs that reduce traffic-related fatalities. The program challenges local agencies to reach targeted goals related to increasing seat belt use and decreasing impaired driving and speeding. Winners at the state level then compete nationally. The Piatt County, Illinois Sheriff's Department, took top honors last year.
"Decatur Electronics has a partnership with law enforcement that stretches back more than 50 years, when we became the first manufacturer of radar for law enforcement," says Greg Roberts, National Sales Manager for Decatur Electronics.
The company has long been a supporter of the Chief's Challenge at both the state and national levels. In the past year, Decatur Electronics has donated dozens of radar units to award winning agencies in Chiefs' Challenges in many areas, including Illinois, California, Tennessee, New York, Connecticut, Georgia, South Carolina and Virginia.
"Sponsoring these events is one way we can show we care about traffic safety and about the countless officers who work to keep people safe every day," says Roberts. "Supporting the Chiefs' Challenge is a great opportunity for us to give back to the law enforcement agencies that have made our company a success."
