National Groups Focus On Reducing Traffic Deaths
Decatur, IL - The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials has put out a call for governors nationwide to address the "extreme loss of life and the staggering costs associated with disabling injuries on our nation's roadways".
According to the World Heath Organization's, traffic fatalities will be the second leading cause of productive work days lost by 2015. That number is second only to heart disease. The AASTO has recommended every state take action to reduce traffic fatalities and support highway safety plans.
"This is an important call to action," said Greg Roberts, Sales Manager for Decatur Electronics, a company with 50 years of experience in the traffic safety industry. "We've seen state government playing an integral role in highway safety. We're hoping to partner with the agencies who are taking safety seriously."
Decatur Electronics has more than 1,000 speed and message trailers in use around the United States and internationally. The company's speed warning devices are used by schools, municipalities and law enforcement agencies to get motorists to slow down. Decatur Electronics has created innovative products for law enforcement over 50 years, including the first radar specifically designed to meet the needs of police officers in the 1950s.
"Safety studies show that speed and message trailers can slow more than 60 percent of speeding motorists' vehicle speeds," Roberts said. "When people slow down, lives are saved."
The company, in addition to police radar, also manufactures radar for sports, industrial applications and OEM products for companies including Harley-Davidson™, Polaris™, and Jugs.™ Its OnSite™ radar and message trailers also use the company's radar.
