Washington D.C. Police Buy Fleet of Odyssey Units
Metro PD - Following a growing trend for specialized sport utility vehicles Metro Police in Washington, DC chose Odyssey to build their new fleet of Suburban Response Units. Two of the Suburbans were transformed into functional K-9 units featuring custom graphics, Whelen lighting, Odyssey's custom function coded wiring harness system and console.
To get the job done right a custom cabinet system was designed with full extension heavy duty slides capable of carrying 1,000 lbs in the lower tray and 500 lbs in the upper tray. An custom K-9 cage was added in the secondary seating position so the dogs are transported in safety. All 110v and 12v power needs are taken care of via a deep cycle gel cell battery and 1000 watt sine wave inverter and a safety and security unit which ensures the dogs are protected from overheating on hot summer days.
As temperatures rise to unhealthy levels an alarm sounds to notify the K9 officer and automatically opens windows as a fan helps keep the K-9 in safer temperatures. The other eight Suburbans were outfitted with deep full length cabinets for bomb squad equipment and tactical gear.
Established in 1979 as the market pioneer, Odyssey of Wharton NJ manufactures first response EMS units, Fire Chief, Command units, Specialty law enforcement and commercial vehicles based on sport utility vehicles, vans, trucks, trailers, light and medium duty rescues.
