MPRI Announces First Sale of PatrolSim IV Driver Training Simulator in Oklahoma

Lawton Police Department to Use State-of-the-Art Technology to Train Officers

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - MPRI, a global leader in simulator products, services and turnkey training facilities, today announced the sale of a PatrolSim IV driver training simulator to the Lawton, Okla., police department. The new simulator, which works in tandem with the department's use-of-force firearm simulator, marks the first sale of an MPRI driver training simulator to a municipality in the state of Oklahoma.

"We began researching simulators more than a year ago to better train our officers with defensive driving techniques and help reduce the number of preventable cruiser accidents," said Ronnie Smith Sr., chief of police, Lawton Police Department. By adopting the most technologically advanced training solutions, our police force is gaining critical skills while we save time and costs associated with on-the-road exercises."

The PatrolSim IV allows officers to practice tactical driving skills in a virtual, life-like environment which is completely risk free. The three high-resolution plasma display panels in combination with the cruiser seat, steering wheel and standard dash provide unmatched driving realism. The simulation commander navigates trainees through different scenarios via a touch screen providing ease of use for the instructor. Vehicle handling skills including J-turns, pit maneuvers and skid pad training courses are just some of the scenarios available. Each driving experience can be customized using new Scenario Builder software, which allows the user to drag and drop different driving environments into each sitatuon, including hazardous weather, to create any driving emergency an officer may encounter.

"MPRI's PatrolSim IV driver training simulator provides officers the ability to practice critical decision making skills - invaluable in any emergency situation," said Terry Tucker, MPRI senior vice president. "As a result, trained personnel are able to react more quickly and efficiently, improving response time."

The new driver simulator is housed at the Great Plains Technology Center located in Lawton. There, students from the local law enforcement program and other agencies within the community now have access to the PatrolSim IV. More than 150 officers are scheduled to train on the simulator at least three times per year.
