Leupold Mourns Passing of Merwyn Webb

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Merwyn Webb, an industry icon and long-time employee of Leupold & Stevens, passed away at his home in Battle Ground, Wash., on July 5th.

Webb began 31 years of distinguished service with Leupold in 1966, retiring in 1997. He supervised the scope assembly area for many years before joining the marketing department in 1983 as the customer service representative. Over the next 14 years, tens of thousands of customers and representatives of the company got to know him as the principal point of contact for technical information on Leupold products.

Leupold’s shooting tunnel and underground range facility are named in honor of Webb, whom many recognize as setting the standard in Leupold’s legendary history of customer service.

Prior to joining Leupold, Webb served in the United States Army’s 82nd Airborne Division for 10 years. During this time, he was involved in the development and testing of new firearms and ammunition. After leaving the Army, Webb moved back to his home state of California to become a deputy sheriff for Los Angeles County. He remained on the force for eight years, achieving the rank of sergeant. In his off-duty hours, he earned a college degree in law enforcement.

Webb is survived by wife Annelie, two daughters, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
