OpTac International To Hold National SWAT/Sniper Symposium

The OpTac International/Operational Tactics National SWAT/Sniper Symposium will be held January 27-29, 2006, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Time is running out to register. We have almost reached capacity. The following instructors will be presenting topics of interest:

The Symposium is designed to provide informative sessions on innovative sniper and command operational planning, tactics, and deployment. In addition, the management of sniper personnel, training, and liability will be covered. This program is designed to provide commanders with realistic guidelines and practical exercises to prepare for and enhance their command of Special Weapons and Tactics teams. Hands-on training will allow tactical commanders the opportunity to formulate tactical team policy, plan the execution of high-risk search and arrest warrants, manage command post operations, legal and ethical decision making, and tactical applications on emergency response operations. An emphasis will be placed on legal updates for tactical team management to include the relationship between the selection and training requirements of tactical team personnel, and departmental liability. Hagerstown, Maryland, Breaching Instructor School – February 13-15, 2006

This school is designed to teach advanced breaching skills and properly prepare officers to instruct law enforcement personnel in this area. A strong emphasis will be placed on the following breaching methods: ram, pry bar, hydraulic, and ballistic/shotgun. An overview of exothermic torches and explosive entry techniques will be presented. In addition, training and operational safety standards/protocol, identification of fortifications, locking mechanisms, innovative breaching equipment, and advanced instructional techniques will be covered. Hagerstown, Maryland, Tactical Negotiations Program– February 20-22, 2006

This program is designed to provide contemporary negotiations and psychological profiling techniques. An emphasis will be placed on the tactical negotiator team concept, multi-lingual and cross-cultural concerns, as well as the role of the tactical negotiator in handling critical incidents to include: suicide by cop, hostage rescue, domestic and workplace violence, and terrorist operations. Hagerstown, Maryland, High-Risk Warrant Service Program – February 27-28, 2006

This program is designed to prepare tactical and narcotics officers both physically and mentally for situations they would likely encounter during high-risk warrant service. An emphasis will be placed on the planning and execution of high-risk search and arrest warrants, vehicle takedowns, and officer safety guidelines. This advanced program is designed to develop and enhance operational planning and execution for Commanders of Special Weapons and Tactics teams through interactive training and practical exercises. Classes on legal updates, media relations, the selection of SWAT team candidates, and command post operations will test and prepare commanders in managerial situations. An emphasis will be placed on critical incident response and supervision of interpersonal issues as they relate to executive decisions and departmental liability. The establishment and prolongation of multi-jurisdictional teams and joint operations will be covered. Cost- $599 per person

N. Miami Beach, Florida, Police Leadership Development Program – March 9-10, 2006

This program will provide advanced applications of leadership skills and tactics for police supervisors. Hands-on training will prepare patrol, investigative, and administrative supervisors to be more effective in their managerial role. An emphasis will be placed on critical incident response, on-scene personnel management, preparation for tactical team arrival, legal and ethical decision-making, and reducing individual and agency liability. This program will provide SWAT officers and supervisors with guidelines for the establishment of contemporary physical fitness standards and practical training concepts. A strong emphasis will be placed on reducing injuries through proper training and nutrition, department liability concerns, muscular function, exercise physiology, developing training programs for the SWAT athlete, and creating a balance between strength and aerobic conditioning in order to achieve maximum results. From basic to advanced techniques, this school will benefit officers without sniper experience, as well as veteran snipers. A strong emphasis is placed on sniper operational tactics, marksmanship skills, fieldcraft/stalking skills, observation/reporting techniques, and urban sniping. *Detroit, Michigan, Advanced Sniper and Instructor School – June 9-14, 2006

This school is designed to teach advanced sniper tactics and operational marksmanship skills. A strong emphasis will be placed on urban sniping, the construction of urban hides, engagement of moving targets and targets at unknown distances, cold bore stress shots, fieldcraft/stalking, deployment skills, and scenarios. There are no prerequisites to attend this school, however, students seeking Sniper Instructor Certification must have successfully completed the Operational Tactics Police Sniper School. Students already possessing general or firearms instructor certification from their own jurisdiction or state training commission will receive sniper instructor certificates upon successful completion of this training. Any officer attending the preceding Police Sniper School will receive a $100 discount off of the Advanced Sniper School tuition. Cost - $899 per person *Conducted by Operational Tactics
