IACP and ITT Announce 10th Annual Community Policing Award Call for Entries

Alexandria, Va. - The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and ITT Night Vision (ITT) today announced the 2007 Community Policing Award Call for Entries, marking the program's 10th anniversary. Award winners will be honored at October's IACP annual conference in New Orleans. Entries will be accepted until midnight on June 1, 2007.

"Community policing is effective when partnerships come to life. Over the past 10 years, winning agencies have united communities in remarkable ways to solve real problems together," said Chief David Boyett, chairman of the IACP's Community Policing Committee. "The award centers on living the community policing philosophy, and we can't wait to see the new ideas this year's entries will reveal."

ITT and the IACP's Community Policing Committee developed the award in 1998 to recognize outstanding community policing initiatives by law enforcement agencies worldwide. To date, 121 agencies-spanning seven countries-have been honored as winners and finalists. For the last three years, agencies have been recognized for their achievements around homeland security-related community policing. Again this year, the committee encourages agencies with homeland security-related community policing initiatives to submit entries.

"ITT is proud to sponsor the Community Policing Award in its notable 10th year," said ITT's Courtney Reynolds, manager, federal marketing and communications. "We have been impressed time and again by the dedication that law enforcement officers across the world show in preventing crime and building safer communities."

Law enforcement agencies and citizens are eligible to nominate candidates in five categories. The categories include agencies serving the following populations: 20,000 or fewer residents; 20,001 to 50,000 residents; 50,001 to 100,000 residents; 100,001 to 250,000 residents; and more than 250,001 residents.
