SpeedSpy Tools Eye Traffic and Speed Data

Decatur, IL  –  Police have two new tools released this month for collecting covert speed and traffic flow data to help them analyze their traffic enforcement programs.

The SpeedSpy™ and OnSite SpeedSpy™ offer unique venues for collecting speed and traffic data using the Decatur Electronics, Inc. Si-3 radar.

Either unit straps to a pole from 2-10 inches in diameter. The SpeedSpy is a small, nondescript gray box with cutting edge technology that collects the data with Decatur’s EZ Stat data logger. Once collected, the information may be downloaded to any PC for easy output as traffic and speed reports.

“Traffic data collection must be covert,” said Decatur’s Marketing and Product Development Manager Kris Pearson. “Otherwise, the data may be skewed by the police presence. The SpeedSpy and OnSite SpeedSpy allow departments to collect data in various areas without drawing undue attention or negatively impacting the accuracy of data.”

The OnSite SpeedSpy, in its unique sign package, offers a covert but traffic enforcing method for speed control. The unit is mounted inside a speed limit sign, providing both data collection and a traffic control solution. 

“Because it’s inexpensive and easy to move,” said Greg Roberts, Decatur’s National Sales Manager, “the SpeedSpy makes a great addition to any department wanting to better understand traffic problems. With the data, police can analyze areas of concern and determine where best to place officers for further control.”
