Dual Monitors Can Help You Make the Most of Your PC
Most people don’t realize that the Windows XP operating system can support up to four (4) monitors.
“Why would anyone need four monitors?” you ask. Computer Aided Dispatching is one great example. With ITI’s Enterprise CAD software, many agencies utilize one monitor for real-time call handling, while utilizing a second monitor for Unit Status or Mapping. If space permits (and it rarely does), a third and fourth monitor can also be added.
All that is required is a multi-port video card which is readily available from a number of sources. Once the card(s) are installed and the monitors connected, you simply go into Control Panel / Display / Settings and identify the resolution of each monitor. After this, the operating system does everything else, and the user can “drag” applications across to the desired monitor.
Multiple monitors are a great productivity tool. All of ITI’s engineers and client services technicians have dual monitors. With dual monitors our engineers can author and debug software on one screen while running the software on the second screen. Our Client Services technicians can manage an open incident with a client on one monitor while they connect to the client system via Web Interactive on their second monitor. The possibilities are endless.
Despite tight budgets, you may want to investigate the use of dual monitors in some of your applications. The cost of the video card and monitor is relatively inexpensive, and in many cases the productivity gains can be high. If you would like to discuss the hardware involved, or have questions about setting up multiple monitors on your PCs, feel free to give our Client Services Group a call, toll free at (866) 4-ITIUSA (448.4872).
