IP Fabrics CALEA System Implemented by Pacific LightNet

DeepSweep™ for CALEA system provides "safe harbor" to meet FCC requirements

Beaverton, OR – July 26, 2007 - IP Fabrics, Inc. announced today that Pacfic LightNet of Honolulu, Hawaii has implemented IP Fabrics’ DeepSweep™ for CALEA system to satisfy CALEA compliance requirements. DeepSweep was chosen over several other solutions because of the system’s openness and extensibility as well as its full compliance with the ATIS T1.IAS specification, which offers safe harbor.

Originally enacted in 1994, the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) was created to help law enforcement agencies execute authorized digital communications surveillance warrants. The Act was recently extended to include the surveillance of Broadband Internet Access and VoIP services. Service providers can comply with CALEA in various ways; including purchasing complaint solutions from vendors which adhere to industry standards, such as T1.IAS.

“We are proud that Pacific LightNet has met the CALEA compliance deadline,” remarked Pacific LightNet’s President Pat Bustamante.  “DeepSweep conformance with the T1.IAS and T1.678v2 specs ensures we will be able to provide the authorities with critical intercept data while achieving ‘safe harbor’ with the FCC

IP Fabrics’ DeepSweep for CALEA is the first self-contained network surveillance system that provides ISPs with both Broadband and VoIP CALEA compliance. Ideal for small and medium-sized ISP and VoIP networks, a single DeepSweep system functions as the complete CALEA compliance solution, providing the probe, mediation/delivery, and administration functions, which are commonly implemented as separate devices.

“We are pleased that we were able to leverage the DeepSweep system for both our broadband data and service offerings. Its advanced packet filtering functions allow us to cost effectively gather operationally useful and highly granular data that satisfy CALEA compliance requirements,” noted Brian Sing, Director of ISP/MIS Operations. “IP Fabrics’ assistance with the proprietary aspects of the system and the development of intercept guidelines has also been invaluable.”
