Former IPTM Expert Joins Decatur Florida Team
Decatur, IL – Former Institute of Police Technology and Management radar and video expert Kevin Morrison joined Decatur Electronics this month as account executive for the state of Florida.
Morrison has trained for more than 10 years thousands of officers in 44 states and in five countries to use radar. Morrison has been in law enforcement for more than 31 years and was a sergeant for 13 years. He led his department’s traffic unit for several years and implemented an in-town airborne speed enforcement program, renewed his community’s motorcycle unit to full strength and created a civilian accident investigation unit.
During his law enforcement career, he started working for the Institute of Police Technology and Management, or IPTM, training officers on the proper use of radar. In 1998, IPTM hired him full-time as an instructor teaching radar and laser use, scene mapping, in-car video and crash investigation. He is world-renowned for his expertise in the use of these techniques by law officers.
Morrison also tested and certified radar and lasers for the IACP.
“I’ve worked on and examined almost every model of radar available,” Morrison said. “Joining Decatur was no accident. They have been in law enforcement radar for more than 50 years and video for nearly 10 years. Decatur is the company for quality products that do the job right. I wanted to be part of that team.”
Morrison adds another great resource to Decatur Electronics’ repertoire of customer benefits.
“We’re excited to have him on the Decatur team,” Roberts said. “His expertise makes him as much a trainer as a salesperson. He offers us and our customers a great resource and great person for continuing our mission to serve law enforcement with the best quality radar, video and trailer products possible.”
Decatur Electronics has been making traffic radar for over 50 years, having created the first radar for law enforcement in 1955. Their law enforcement radar revolutionized the industry with small-sized units and affordable handhelds in the late 1980s. With a commitment to technology, the company released several new products this year, including the Scout handheld radar, the Shadow in-car video, the Radar Rearview Mirror Display and the OnSite 450 Speed and Message trailer.
