Bellevue’s Apollo Video Technology Begins Installation of Cameras on Tacoma School Buses

BELLEVUE, Wash.—Apollo Video Technology (www.avt-usa.com) of Bellevue, Wash. has begun installation of video and audio recording systems on-board 185 Tacoma School Di, Dec. 13, 2007 – strict School buses in Washington state.

In September, Apollo Video was awarded a $458,000 contract by the Tacoma School District, to manufacture, install and maintain 127 two-camera and 58 one-camera state-of-the-art Roadrunner DVR systems on-board its fleet of buses.  Installation is expected to be completed by the end of December .

The interior mounted RoadRunner systems, which record activities within buses and allow for real-time remote viewing through a secure wireless local area network, will help school district officials provide for the safe riding, boarding and disembarkation of its students while they ride to and from school.

With 62 schools serving more than 30,000 children in kindergarten through 12th grade, the Tacoma School District is Washington state’s second largest school district.

“The RoadRunner system was selected based on overall value,“ said Sue Race, Director of Transportation for Tacoma School District. “The quality of the systems along with the warranty and support that Apollo Video provides were significant factors in making our selection.”

As a part of the contract, Apollo Video will also provide training of Tacoma School District Transportation Department employees in the setup and ongoing operation of the RoadRunner system.

“We are pleased to have been selected by Tacoma School District,” said Rodell Notbohm, General Manager of Apollo Video Technology.  “One of the issues that school districts face is the management of information. For transportation officials, the RoadRunner system’s secure wireless capability allows officials to acquire and document accurate information on a real-time basis and react quickly to any situation.”

Across the U.S. Apollo Video’s RoadRunner system is installed in bus fleets of over 50 school districts including Tulsa Public Schools in Oklahoma and Lane County School District in Oregon.  Over 150 public agencies, including Chicago Metra, Los Angeles County Metro Transportation Authority, City of Lincoln Nebraska, and the Cocoa Beach, Florida Police Department, have selected Apollo Video to provide and install video and audio surveillance systems.
