Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (Colo.) Selects New World Systems’ Public Safety Software
Troy, Mich.— The Sheriff’s Office in rapidly growing Douglas County, Colo. has taken a significant step to become a technology leader and improve community safety. After conducting a thorough review of public safety software systems, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has signed a contract to license New World Systems’ Aegis/MSP® Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft® platform to replace aging software that no longer meets their needs. The Sheriff’s Office plans to increase overall efficiency by reducing paperwork and eliminating redundant data entry with this easy to use, integrated solution for Dispatchers, Officers and Command Staff.
“We were looking for a system that was user friendly and would provide officers with the resources to work smarter and faster,” said Sheriff David Weaver. “New technology will make us more efficient and will allow us to be proactive versus reactive. The faster an officer can finish a report while out in the field, and the more people that see that officer on the streets, the safer the community is.”
After week long hands-on demonstrations, site visits and researching vendors, the Sheriff’s Office found that New World Systems’ fully integrated solution best met the needs of their large agency.
“We had more than 2,000 requirements for our new system,” said Lori Orr, Technology Manager for Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. “We were looking for a vendor that could supply the whole package, Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management, Jail and Mobile Computing. We visited customer sites and received great responses from New World Systems customers. It gave me great confidence to know that they have a proven track record.”
“Functionality was the most important item for us and New World was our number one candidate,” added Captain Bradlee Heyden. “New World had the best flow-through of data, which is very important in reducing our redundant data entry. Also, each customer we visited echoed the fact that New World’s support is the best of any software company they have worked with.”
New World will provide the Sheriff’s Office with Aegis/MSP Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Law Enforcement Records Management, Corrections Management and Mobile Computing software. The completely integrated solution, developed in-house using proven Microsoft® technology, industry-standard Windows® Server and SQL Server, will offer the user-friendly environment and intuitive navigation the Sheriff’s Office was looking for. This will enable the Sheriff’s Office to gather more statistical data to determine manpower needs and assess crime patterns.
New World’s CAD solution will help Douglas County Dispatchers manage more than 423,000 calls for service a year. It will improve reporting and allow the County to keep pace with the latest 9-1-1 technologies. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is also looking forward to reduced training times with the easy-to-use system.
“I was impressed with how quickly I could learn and use New World’s CAD during the hands-on demonstration,” said Communications Manager Cory Friend. “Nationwide, there are staffing issues in dispatching centers; with this system in place, we will be able to drastically reduce the training time for our new employees.”
New World’s Law Enforcement Records Management will enable the Sheriff’s Office to successfully complete NIBRS compliant reports and reduce the amount of time records personnel spend performing duplicate data entry. Because data flows seamlessly through the entire suite of New World’s software, information entered once through CAD or Mobile Computing will be available throughout the system.
The Sheriff’s Office is also looking forward to improved jail management with New World’s Corrections Management software.
“New World’s Booking Wizard will streamline the process for arresting officers and reduce the amount of time they are in our facility processing any arrestee,” said Lieutenant Laurie Anderson. “Based on the way the software is laid out and the reports we will be able to run, it is obvious that New World’s development team has detention experience and understands statutory as well as community and command staff requirements.”
New World’s Mobile Computing will improve communication for officers in the field, and Field-based Reporting will allow officers to complete and submit required reports from their vehicles. Keeping officers available in the community has become increasingly important as the Sheriff’s Office has become responsible for an expanding population of more than 280,000 residents.
