ROANOKE, Va. – ITT Industries Night Vision, a division of ITT Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ITT), today announced that it will provide the American Society for Law Enforcement Training (ASLET) with a $7,500 gift as part of its partnership with the organization. This support is part of the company’s overall Saved by Sight initiative to promote officer safety and equipment preparedness through awareness, research and training.

“Officer safety and community preparedness are sacrificed without use of the proper lifesaving equipment and training,” said Larry Curfiss, vice president, business development for ITT Industries Night Vision. “We believe that the work of ASLET aligns with our objectives to support the practice and safety of law enforcement officers.”

As part of its gift, ITT Industries Night Vision is sponsoring ASLET’s Lifetime Achievement Award, which is being presented on February 23, 2002 at the organization’s 15th Annual International Training Seminar in Anchorage, Alaska.

Additionally, ITT Industries Night Vision will work with the organization to quantify and communicate officers’ vulnerabilities without night vision or thermal equipment, and the successes of officers who have had the advantage due to this equipment. As part of the Saved by Sight initiative, ITT Industries Night Vision is working with law enforcement leadership organizations to survey law enforcement officials to quantify the need and benefit of night vision equipment.

Frank Hackett, ASLET executive director, said, “Technology is truly advancing the law enforcement profession, but training is a key element to successful use of technology. ASLET is pleased that ITT is supporting officer safety through training.”

ITT Industries Night Vision has worked closely with departments and law enforcement organizations internationally to determine the best way to increase officer safety with night vision. Key areas for night vision use include surveillance, narcotics operations, K-9, building searches, disaster preparedness, homeland defense preparedness, patrol, serving warrants, perimeter searches and special operations. Additionally, ITT Industries Night Vision provides introductory, intermediate and advanced night operations training courses. When available, the company offers these courses in its mobile training center.
