Moundsville, West Virginia, 2002
Report from the team from Fountain Correctional Facility, Alabama DOC:
We were privileged to test the TigerLightŪ Non-Lethal Defense System flashlight during our scenarios at the Mock Prison Riot in Moundsville, West Virginia, sponsored by OLETC. We tested a number of impressive technologies. However, the TigerLightŪ Non-Lethal defense system flashlight was probably the most significant technological/tactical development at the Riots. The brightness of the light surpassed anything we have seen by a significant margin. The lights intensity was actually effective as a distraction devise on aggressive or non-compliant inmates in dark or daylight conditions. We were also extremely impressed with its durability and feel that cost savings over time will be significant.
The most important attribute of the unit in our evaluation was that it gave my team members the ability to instantly deploy pepper spray in a stealth fashion while keeping their gun hands free. We feel that not only is this a significant advancement in defensive tactics, but that the ability it affords us to transition from lethal to non-lethal force without taking critical time to go to the belt will reduce the risk of improper use of force, particularly in situations where the level of force required or justified is not immediately apparent. I believe this will serve to reduce liability exposure to our institution.
More importantly, it will increase safety to the officer and the inmate. It is always our goal to equip our teams with the most effective equipment available. That is why we chose to equip our entire unit with TigerLightŪ Non-Lethal Defense System flashlights.
