TigerLight Completes Training of 22 Air Force Trainers at AFSOC, Hurlburt Field AFB
HEBER CITY, UTAH - Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), after operational use approval from the Non-Nuclear Munitions Safety Board, purchased 100 TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense Systems and commenced training January 5, 2005.
TigerLight, Inc., located in Heber City, Utah, manufactures the TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense System. The versatile unit is the only device that provides an instant, stealth, non-lethal response against single or multiple attackers while enabling the simultaneous, synergistic application of lethal and non-lethal force. For these unique capabilities, many consider it a revolutionary advancement in defensive tactics.
The eight-hour Trainer Certification Course included approximately two hours in the classroom where 22 trainers from three bases received a comprehensive overview in a combination power point/video presentation and discussion. Significant use-of-force legal and statistical information was provided emphasizing the importance of the role of such a weapon in law enforcement.
Concepts such as "Threat Assessment", "Situational Control", "Tactical Disengagement" and "Non-Lethal Enhanced Tactical Disengagement" were discussed and then practiced during scenario training. The TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense system's application within various arena's and diverse "rules of engagement" was also discussed. Each trainer was shown how to completely disassemble and re-assemble the unit.
The trainers then spent 5 hours in tactical exercises and high stress scenario training during which the enhanced tactical response capability provided by the TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense System was experienced in a wide variety of force and potential force scenarios. The scenarios were video taped, viewed and discussed.
"The objective of the training was to show a group of highly trained and very capable individuals a new, safer and more effective way to do business, to quote from the Air Force Memo on Non-Lethal, 'to see first, understand first and act first'", says TigerLight President and CEO, Michael Teig. ' We were all very impressed with the quality of the attendees."
Trainers learned how to more effectively assess the threat, keep control of the situation, and be prepared to instantly escalate, de-escalate or disengage.
Master Trainer, John "Randy" Butler, former Special Forces Battalion Commander, current use-of-force expert witness and DT trainer led the training, assisted by two-time National Shooting Champion and Defensive Tactics Trainer, Marshall Luton and highly experienced National Guard and Air Force Security Forces Trainer, Dennis Kennedy.
The TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense System creates a highly enhanced capability set for dealing with aggressive and potentially aggressive or combative subjects. The ability to approach a situation with a stealth weapon in hand, capable of providing an instant response against single or multiple attackers while keeping the gun hand free, is extremely significant. The TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense System comes into play in the 49 out of 50 incidents (NIJ study on Non-Lethal 1999) that pepper spray should have been used but could not be used due to the sudden nature of the incident. TigerLight® fills that enormous gap. Nothing else does.
Until now, they have not had a stealth, instant response to an unexpected act of aggression, lethal or non-lethal, other than their hands, feet and maybe their flashlight when used as an impact weapon. Everything else takes time to remove from the belt, or the car and requires at least a momentary commitment to one level of force.
The TigerLight® Non-Lethal Defense System have spent many months in the deserts and mountains of Afghanistan with the Army's 19th Special Forces without failure and are soon to be deployed to Iraq to assist in various arenas.
