Setcom Introduces Waterproof Liberator Wireless System

The Most Recent Advance in Police Motorcycle Communications, Setcom’s Liberator Wireless System Is Now Waterproof.

Mountain View, CA—Setcom Corporation, an industry leader in communications systems and accessories for police motorcycle officers, recently introduced its Waterproof Liberator Wireless System. Further enhancing its status as the premier police motorcycle wireless system, the Liberator is now ready to ride rain or shine.

Due to the fact that police motorcycle officers work in a variety of weather conditions, Setcom knew that these officers needed a communications system that could stand up to the elements. An intense engineering development effort was put into place to achieve an IP-X7 rating for the Liberator Wireless System. The IP-X7 rating is an international standard for rating the integrity of enclosures. Setcom’s Liberator Wireless SuperMic and handlebar transmitter enclosures were validated by an independent laboratory to meet the IP-X7 standard.

With over 20 years of experience designing wireless products, Engineer Steve Hall led Setcom’s waterproofing effort. He says, "Police motorcycles are very challenging environments for communications equipment. Water incursion is one of the most significant issues that can cause a communications device on a police motorcycle to fail. It wasn’t a trivial effort to get the IP-X7 certification so we’re very proud of the result and the ability for police motorcycle officers to now operate in most weather conditions.”

In addition to being protected against the elements, the Liberator System includes several other features. The primary benefits are increased freedom and ease of movement. In addition, by operating in the 900 MHz ISM frequency range, the system avoids the interference challenges associated with higher frequencies. Also, the system is backward compatible with Setcom’s existing helmet kits, saving departments money and upgrade hassles. Finally, the system draws the minimal power it requires from the portable radio, eliminating the need to recharge batteries.

Officer Stephen Mello of the Mountain View Police Department in California says, "I've been using Setcom equipment for a long time. Their products and service have always been the best in the business. The Liberator continues in this tradition. With the Liberator I never have to take my eyes off of a vehicle that I’m pulling over. From what I’ve seen in the marketplace over my 18 years of riding motors, it’s the best tool for motor officer safety in the 21st Century.”

Setcom’s Waterproof Liberator Wireless System is currently available in “Portable Radio Only” configurations for most popular Motorola and M/A-COM portable radios.

Setcom’s Liberator Wireless System is Patent Pending.
