Kansas officer's vest saves him from bullet

SHAWNEE - A Shawnee police officer was shot early today but not seriously injured because of his protective vest, police said.
The 2-year veteran was hit in the upper body while responding to reports of shots fired at the 6600 block of Park Street.
He fired back but did not hit the suspect, an 18-year-old male who was captured shortly after the shooting.
