Training for a Transit Event in a Virtual Environment
Simulation system demos capability at the 25th annual Police Security Expo
Suwanee, GA – Transit police forces across the country often serve commuter populations much larger in scale than populations served per officer in typical law enforcement agencies. With fewer sworn officers, efficiencies in training and resources are critical.
Range time is necessary and required, but often does not provide the critical decision making training needed in the field, while a live fire transit training exercise can often be time and cost intensive. Meggitt Training Systems, makers of FATS® and Caswell technologies, has developed a compact firearms training simulator that allows agencies to fine tune shooting skills via virtual marksmanship training as well as decision-based judgmental training all within a classroom environment.
The Next Generation Virtual Trainer (XVT) offers advanced training technology in a self-contained, portable package. The projector, scoring system and CPU components are self-contained in a streamlined case. The system is simply placed on the floor and set-up is complete. Alternatively, the entire system can be quickly installed via a ceiling mount to save space within a smaller floor plan. A compact touch screen tablet PC provides wireless instructor control for ease of use, while an intuitive graphic interface eliminates the need for lengthy instructor training. The widescreen HD display creates an immersive training environment that is critical to judgmental training.
“Scenario-based virtual training allows officers to train in a non-lethal environment in what could be lethal scenarios when faced out in the field,” said David O’Meara, Vice President Law Enforcement Sales. “A combined firearms training program allows officers to spend time in a classroom environment on a virtual firearms trainer often saving time and money before moving out onto the live fire range or into a full-scale, live fire exercise.”
Meggitt courseware is designed based on real-world scenarios faced by officers in the field. From suspicious packages to hostage situations to terrorist threats, courseware and weaponry are the critical components in a virtual weapons training system. Multi-branched scenarios allow trainers to alter the outcomes based on officer commands, reactions and agency protocol.
Meggitt’s XVT system supports wireless BlueFire® wireless, tethered system controlled and Dvorak weapons. The BlueFire wireless weapon simulators use commercial wireless Bluetooth® technology to communicate with the training system while providing a full range of motion during tactical training exercises. Additionally, Meggitt offers BlueFire chemical spray and Taser® simulators for less than lethal training options.
