Kansas City Area Transportation Authority Selects Apollo Video Technology’s RoadRunner System

BELLEVUE, Wash.—Apollo Video Technology (www.avt-usa.com) of Bellevue, Wash. has been selected by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority to supply and install on-board camera systems for its bus transit fleet.

Beginning this month, Apollo Video’s RoadRunner video system will be retro-fitted on 42 buses of the existing KCATA fixed route fleet of over 300 buses.  The contract also provides for the training of KCATA personnel in the operation of the system.

The installation of Apollo Video’s digital color, audio and video RoadRunner systems, which includes seven cameras per bus, will help the agency monitor the safe boarding, riding and disembarkation of passengers and operation of its buses.    Additionally, cameras will capture traffic activity in the front, rear and sides of each bus.

“The project will further enhance bus operator and customer security aboard KCATA vehicles as well as improve incident investigation capabilities,” said Bob Kohler, KCATA Director of Transportation.  KCATA operates 70 bus routes serving a seven county area in Missouri and Kansas.  The agency is among the top 30 U.S. transit agencies with an estimated 15 million passenger trips annually.

“The RoadRunner system will provide KCATA with superior video quality in a system that is easy to use and maintain,” said Rodell Notbohm, General Manager of Apollo Video Technology.  “We are pleased to be selected for this project in an ever-increasing nationwide demand for reliable and high quality mobile video systems.”

Across the U.S., the RoadRunner system is installed in over 150 agencies including Chicago Metra, Los Angeles County Metro Transportation Authority, City of Lincoln Nebraska, Tulsa School District and Cocoa Beach, Florida Police Department.
