Fla. officer hits 2 pedestrians while responding to call

Emergency lights, but no siren on

South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla.— A police officer struck and killed two pedestrians early Monday while responding to a call, authorities said.

The two male victims were crossing Pines Boulevard around 83rd Avenue, apparently in the crosswalk, shortly after 4 a.m. when they were hit, said Pembroke Pines police Sgt. Bryan Davis.

Police did not identify the victims but said they appeared to be in their late 20s or early 30s.

The officer's name wasn't released but was said to have been on the force for 20 years.

Davis said there was one witness to the accident, who told police the eastbound officer had his emergency lights on, but was not running his siren. The type of emergency call the officer was responding to was not immediately available.
