LDV Delivers Dual Special Operations Vehicles to Philadelphia Fire Department
These command centers are equipped with the industry's most advanced technology to help emergency response professionals respond to any type of situation.
According to Captain Scott Sladek, Apparatus Officer for the Philadelphia Fire Department, the decision was made to expand the city's special operations after September 11, 2001. At that time there was only one company serving the more than 129 square miles of Philadelphia. With funding from the office of Homeland Security, they ordered two identical vehicles to serve the south and north halves of the city. The special operations vehicles will support the command stations by carrying specialized tools for all emergency situations.
Built on Freightliner 25,500 pound GVWR MT-55 chassis and powered by Cummins turbo-charged diesel engines, they also feature Allison 2200EVS heavy-duty five-speed automatic transmissions The frames have a 178-inch wheelbase and are equipped with aluminum wheels and Insta-Chain automatic ice chains.
The communications features of these vehicles include a Motorola XTL5000 Dash Mount Mobile Radio, pre-wiring for installation of additional communications radios, a landline telephone input, a landline fax machine and a computer docking station.
