Video: App acts as remote control for police car

Prototype for Windows 8 can send video, location and other data from multiple cruisers to a tablet

By PoliceOne Staff

A new system demonstrated this week on the Microsoft campus uses a Windows 8 app to control a police cruiser's lights, sirens, rear door and other in-vehicle features.

In the video demo, Modularis co-founder A.J. Singh speaks commands into a tablet to activate features of the patrol car. Since the system utilizes Cloud-based computing, the tablet can remotely control the vehicle from anywhere, GeekWire reported.

Part of a wave of new apps designed for Windows 8 — which will debut later this year — the prototype can also send video, location and other data from multiple cruisers to the tablet.
