Pa. police employ new technology to identify crime patterns

Free service CrimeMapper.com paying big dividends

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Bethlehem Police Department has been using crimemapping.com - an online graphical interface that maps out crime locations -- for about a year and is extremely pleased with the insight the free service provides.

Data from the city's crime log is entered into the San Diego-based Omega Group's website each night and both officials and citizens can view crime patterns in the area.

“I use it all the time just to look at patterns,” Lt. Mark DiLuzio, who leads Bethlehem’s detectives, said. “It works. It shows you where you are being hit.”
