St. Joseph, Missouri Police Department Migrates to New World System's Aegis/MSP Public Safety Software

Troy, Michigan — New World Systems, a leading provider for 25 years of enterprise-wide software solutions for the public sector, announced today St. Joseph, Mo. signed a contract valued at approximately $1 million for its services and Aegis®/MSP Public Safety software on the Windows® platform.

A New World customer for 12 years, the St. Joseph Police Department was using the company’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management software on the IBM® iSeries platform. There were several reasons the department chose to migrate to the Windows solution.

“We outgrew the iSeries,” said Communications Support Specialist and Project Manager Tabby McClanahan. “It is more cost efficient for us to move to a Windows server rather than buying a new iSeries server. A Windows-based environment is familiar to the users, making it easier to use and less training intensive. It will also save us a vast amount of time, because there will be less data entry with the many drop down menu selections.”

In addition to using New World’s CAD and Records software, the department will also implement Mobile Computing, Field Reporting and AVL. More than 90 patrol officers will have mobile terminals in their units, which will give them access to a subject’s history with law enforcement, including any warrants, gun registrations, etc. Mobile will help increase safety because officers will have critical information about a person prior to arriving at a scene or approaching a vehicle in a traffic stop. Field Reporting helps keep officers visible in the streets rather than at headquarters writing reports. It also helps reduce errors recounting the event, because the report can be written immediately after an incident. Reports are wirelessly uploaded to supervisors prior to being available in Records.

“AVL will also help dispatchers send the closest available units to an emergency when seconds matter, which is extremely important,” said McClanahan.

The St. Joseph Fire Department had already chosen New World’s Aegis/MSP Fire, which helped make the transition easier. The fire department began implementation in the beginning of 2006 and they have a live date scheduled for the immediate future. There are approximately 136 users at nine different stations. Fire will also have Mobile Computing from the trucks when the police department implements Mobile.

New World’s software will help 117 sworn officers and 18 communications personnel enhance services to approximately 74,000 citizens in the City.

“The department is excited and supportive of migrating to New World’s Windows solution,” said McClanahan.
