Clermont Police Department, Fla. prepares to fight crime with new Microsoft-based public safety software

As the City of Clermont, Fla. grew to be the largest community in Lake County, their public safety solution was no longer meeting their needs. To better manage the challenges of an expanding population, the Clermont Police Department selected New World Systems’ integrated Aegis/MSP® Public Safety solution on the Microsoft® platform. “We’re located right outside Orlando Metro and our population has doubled in the last 5 years,” said Chief of Police Stephen Graham. “Our former system was adequate for a smaller agency but was not equipped to handle the influx of crime that comes with a growing community. We wanted to find a system with the capacity to handle our growth for the next 10 to 15 years.” During the vendor selection process, the police department received technology consulting assistance from the Florida League of Cities, Inc. This education and support ensured that the police department would select technology that could accommodate their city now and into the future. “With all the new technology available today, it’s hard for any executive to stay on top of it,” said Chief Graham. “The Florida League of Cities’ technical expertise helped us discover what we needed and helped us narrow down the best fit for Clermont. When we looked at the pros and cons of each vendor, we were all in favor of New World Systems.” The police department signed a contract for New World’s Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management and Mobile Computing software developed in-house using proven Microsoft® technology, industry-standard Windows® Server and SQL Server. As a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner, New World will provide the Clermont Police Department with a solution that enables fast, easy access to critical data and integration to common Microsoft applications. New World’s solution will be easy for city dispatchers and police officers to use and will offer more reliable information from a single database. The police department will also have access to more accurate crime statistics and be able to streamline required IBR and UCR reporting processes. Mobile Computing will significantly increase officer safety with real-time access to information and communication while in the field. The police department will also benefit from increased awareness of officers in the field through Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL). “Just from viewing the product, I could tell that New World’s solution is going to save us many man-hours,” said Chief Graham. The Clermont Police Department is looking forward to implementation and being able to better manage their increased population and case loads. “The usual reason departments are forced to change their software vendors after less than 10 years is because they don’t do their homework in the beginning,” said Chief Graham. “We’ve done the tax payers a service because I’m very confident New World’s solution will satisfy our needs in the distant future.”
