Kane County (Ill.) Selects New World Systems as Best Choice for Microsoft-based Public Safety Software
Troy, Mich. — Kane County (Ill.) is replacing their public safety software as part of an ongoing effort by County Board Chairman Karen McConnaughy and Kane County Sheriff Patrick Perez to improve public safety. The Kane County Sheriff’s Department has signed a contract to license New World Systems’ integrated Aegis/MSP® Public Safety Solution on the Microsoft® platform to upgrade and consolidate technology, improve jail management and share critical public safety information with surrounding agencies. The new system will replace decade-old technology that is no longer being supported.
“We were dealing with old technology that the Sheriff’s Department was dissatisfied with,” said Roger Fahnestock, Director of Information Technology for Kane County. “When we looked at the cost to maintain our current solution versus a new investment to implement modern technology, we decided to go to bid and look at what was available in the market.”
The County conducted a thorough review of public safety software vendors which included software demonstrations, site visits and evaluations by employees from the Sheriff’s Department who would eventually use the new solution. Selecting a new solution to conform to their infrastructure standardizations was important to the technologically advanced County. They have put forth tremendous effort in recent years to consolidate technology platforms and upgrade all solutions to a Microsoft®-based platform.
New World Systems met Kane County’s technology requirements and offers an easy-to-use interface for users.
“We had our end users navigate the software with us during demonstrations,” said Fahnestock. “We also researched each vendor’s financial position, R&D resources and technology. In the end, New World matched our technical requirements and was unanimously selected by the users.”
New World will provide Kane County with Aegis Records Management, Corrections Management and Field-Based Reporting software, developed in-house using proven Microsoft® technology, industry-standard Windows® Server and SQL Server. The solutions offer Sheriff’s Department and Jail employees easy navigation in a familiar Windows environment. The completely integrated solutions will also eliminate redundant data entry and the need for separate jail management software.
New World’s Corrections Management will help streamline booking, inmate management and release from the County jail with built-in workflow processes. County corrections officers will also have the ability to code and classify inmates, a feature that was not available to them in the past.
Kane County joins a growing number of New World Systems customers in the State of Illinois, including Springfield, Sangamon County, Kankakee County, Geneva, Batavia, Montgomery and many more.
“Another important aspect for the County is the ability to share information with our neighbors,” said Fahnestock. “We looked at the agencies around us and realized that a significant number of them were using or implementing New World’s public safety solutions.”
In addition to licensing new software, the County is building a new adult correctional facility and Sheriff’s Office. New World’s solutions will help Kane County manage public safety information on a growing population of more than 460,000 residents and help them supervise approximately 700 inmates in their new jail facility. Implementation will begin immediately.
