Case Study: Fresno PD and VideoFOCUS

Salient Stills - Customer Story

BOSTON, Ma - In his department, they’d been doing some form of video capture for years before Frank Rose and the Fresno Police Department decided on VideoFOCUS. For a while they rigged up a makeshift system, before the technology was available to do more. They moved onto a high end system which was too complicated and time consuming for the requirements they faced. Two years ago they started with VideoFOCUS. "It was relatively painless getting set up," was Frank’s take on it. In fact, he can have people trained and working on the system in 1-2 hours, tops.

While their previous system was too big, too confusing and too expensive, VideoFOCUS now helps his department take a video, demultiplex it, and capture the images in minutes.

"If I need to I can save the video to DVD, review it and have still photos in 20 minutes, depending on the need." The images can be saved to a DVD or any computer, and the quality of the video forensics image remains the clearest he has seen. "For court, the high resolution allows us to get really identifiable photos of suspects. That’s the real value."

About ease of use: "Training time for somebody that can do windows, you can sit down and use the system in about an hour, tops. And when they come in to train you, they spend most of the time teaching you the basics about video and Windows, the product itself is that easy."

"We get videos everyday. 90% of the stuff they lock on my desk at night. In the morning I process it, easy. It’s not a big thing anymore."
