Chief says student's attack on officer was 'suicide by cop'

FRESNO, Calif. — A high school sophomore who attacked an police officer with a sawed-off bat on Wednesday wanted to die, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.

The student was "lying in wait" and hit the officer with the sawed-off bat. After the officer shot him in the chest, the student said, "Go ahead and kill me."
