NEW YORK — A former NYPD officer is planning to open up his own police-themed bar in New York, complete with its own jail cell.
27-year veteran Stephen Barounis retired from the NYPD's Bronx Task Force in 2011 but missed his work environment, so he decided to bring it to his new job, according to DNAInfo.com
The bar, which will be named the 46th Street Stationhouse, is currently under construction but plans to open in April in Midtown.
“I can bring you in in handcuffs and you’ll actually think you’re in a precinct,” said Barounis, who has added some realistic design aspects to the space, like a real squad car, a jail cell, and a commissioner’s room.
"It's a safe haven," said Barounis. "We don't want people mistaking us for an actual precinct, but if anyone ever needs help — if they're being followed or something — they can come here, and we'll protect you."
