Small-town paper's letter to editor thanks police

Letter to the Editor
The Berkshire Eagle

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — My family and I were fortunate enough to be able to attend the G.R.E.A.T. Families program offered through the Pittsfield Police Department and headed by Officer Michael Ortega. One night a week for six weeks we were able to interact with some wonderful people, learn ways to communicate within our family and learn how to prevent issues that plague our society.

The program teaches about effective communication, effective ways of discipline, good role models, Internet safety, how to avoid drugs, gangs and bullying. The best part of the program though was the way the officers and teachers leading the class interacted with my two boys. During dinner the leaders sat with us, engaged the kids in conversations and I could tell they genuinely cared about my family. They deserve thanks for taking the time to reach out to families and heading up this great program.
