PHOENIX– An hours-long hostage situation has come to an end in west Phoenix, with SWAT officers storming the home at about 6 this morning and shooting the suspect.
Police say one of the two hostages still in the home was injured, but police say she was able to walk out of the home on her own.
The other hostage, a woman said to be her 80s, wasn't hurt.
The condition of the gunman wasn't immediately known.
Police say the armed man entered the home near 85th Avenue and Indian School Road at about 10 Thursday night and took five people hostage.
A man who police found sitting in a car outside the home when they responded to a trouble call at the house was taken into custody.
During the night, two men who had been held captive were able to escape and police rescued a woman who also had been held in the home.
Police Sergeant Andy Hill said the suspect had threatened the victims repeatedly, at times holding a gun to their heads and he told police that at one point he had put a gun into the mouth of one of the women.
