Fla. gunmen in deadly Christmas Eve mall shooting held without bail
West Palm Beach, Fla. -- Two men charged in a deadly Christmas Eve mall shooting were ordered held without bail Tuesday as police tried to determine the motive in the killing that set off panic among holiday shoppers.
Shoppers ducked under tables and ran for cover when the gunfire rang out Sunday afternoon at the Boynton Beach Mall. The shopping center was evacuated and closed until Tuesday. (Watch the frantic scene at the mall )
Bail was denied for both men during their initial court appearances Tuesday. They did not enter pleas.
Police said Cesar fired at least six shots, fatally wounding Berno Charlemond, 23, then fired at officers during a chase inside the mall before he was cornered and arrested. Officers did not return fire and no one else was injured.
Authorities were investigating whether the shooting was gang related but did not release details.
The public defender and state attorney did not return calls seeking comment Tuesday.
