Fla. police fatally shoot suspect after hostage standoff

The Associated Press

PALATKA, Fla.— Police in Palatka, Florida, say they've shot and killed a man who'd shot and wounded his ex-girlfriend, a 10-year-old boy and a sheriff's deputy during a three-hour hostage drama today.

Police say he'd been angry over a failed relationship with his ex-girlfriend when he abducted her around midnight and held her hostage as he fled in a stolen vehicle.

The deputy was struck in his bulletproof vest and was not seriously hurt. The ex-girlfriend and the boy were both in stable condition at a hospital.

Palatka is about 50 miles south of Jacksonville.
