SALT LAKE CITY — An apparently suicidal man shot by a Salt Lake County sheriff's deputy Saturday evening was in serious condition after undergoing surgery.
David Nystrom, 49, was shot in the chest about 11 p.m. following a standoff with SWAT team officers, said Lt. Paul Jaroscak. Nystrom was taken to LDS hospital where he underwent surgery late Saturday.
Drivers called 911 to report that a motorist had jumped a curb and nearly hit a pedestrian at 11844 S. Lampton View Dr. (1080 West) Saturday, Jaroscak said. That driver, later identified as Nystrom, drove to a home at 1061 W. Windchime Circle (19930 South).
