Ky. standoff ends in man's death

The Associated Press

LEXINGTON, Ky.- A stand-off between Lexington police and a man who had walked away from a halfway house in Covington ended when the man took his own life.

Police say 35-year-old Randolph Scott Wallace barricaded himself in a southeast Lexington home after being approached earlier Sunday afternoon.

Police evacuated nearby homes and brought in a hostage negotiator. The stand-off lasted around six hours, according to police. Lieutenant Douglas Pape said Wallace shot himself around 8 p.m. Sunday evening.

Pape said he did believe anyone was in the house with Wallace at the time of the shooting. No officers were injured in the incident.

The Fayette County Coroner's office listed Covington as Wallace's place of residence.
