GRAND PRARIE, Texas — Two Grand Prarie police officers were wounded and a suspect was killed ending an hours-long manhunt on Christmas Day.

A 16-year-old suspect whose name has not been released led police on a short pursuit before exiting his vehicle and firing at officers, according to CBS, after officers tried making a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle.

A Department of Public Safety helicopter and K-9 units assisted with an intensive search for the suspect, which ended in an exchange of gunfire.

Two officers were transported to Dallas Methodist Hospital, but have since been treated and released. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the report.

“This just shows how dangerous the job of our police officers is,” Mayor Ron Henson said.  ’A normal traffic stop could have turned deadly. Our prayers and thoughts are with the officers and with the families.”
